Togolese opposition plans Brussels meeting

Togolese democratic forces and diaspora groups will meet in Brussels from November 27 to 29, 2026.

Togolese opposition groups CODITOGO and FREEDOM-TOGO MLN announced a meeting in Brussels, Belgium, from November 27 to 29, 2026. The gathering aims to strengthen the unity of the Togolese opposition and foster a new dynamic for citizen-led action to rebuild democracy in Togo.

This initiative follows discussions at the International Forum of Montreal in August 2025 and takes into account the January 26, 2026, ruling by the ECOWAS Court of Justice. The Brussels Assises will focus on promoting collaboration among democratic opposition actors, establishing a strategic consultation framework, and creating a permanent body for decision-making and dispute resolution.

The stated goals include building a culture of collaboration based on mutual respect and collective responsibility. The meeting also seeks to define new strategies and strengthen the convergence of initiatives to unite democratic forces around a shared vision.

Why it mattersTogolese citizens and diaspora are affected by the opposition's efforts to rebuild democracy and end a long-standing dictatorship.
