Togo gas transport to resume by October 27
West African Gas Pipeline Company completed valve replacements and will now dry the pipeline.
Gas transport on the Lomé lateral pipeline, suspended since October 12, is expected to resume by October 27. The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) announced on October 20 that it had successfully replaced two valves without incident. The company is now proceeding with water evacuation, drying, and inspection of the 19-kilometer pipeline.
WAPCo stated that the replacement of the subsea valve and the station's inlet shut-off valve occurred between October 14 and 17. The next phase involves internal inspection using a magnetic flux leakage tool to assess the pipeline's condition before gas transport can safely restart. WAPCo acknowledged the temporary interruption's impact on Togo's electricity production.
The company expressed gratitude to the Togolese government, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, CEET, ContourGlobal Togo, and the public for their patience. The project aims to ensure the safety, reliability, and sustainable operation of the West African Gas Pipeline system.
