Tunis court sentences neighbour to death for child murder

A young man will be hanged for strangling a six-year-old girl and hiding her body on a neighbour's roof in 2025.

A criminal court in Tunis has sentenced a young man to death by hanging for the premeditated murder of his six-year-old neighbour. The court found the man guilty of strangling the child with a sock in 2025. He then wrapped her body in curtain fabric and hid it on a neighbour's roof.

The crime began with the girl's disappearance, causing distress to her family and neighbours in the El Omrane El Aala district. Investigations led to the neighbour, known to the victim and other children in the area. He admitted to luring the girl to his home after she returned alone.

The court's decision followed the examination of the case and the evidence presented. The convicted man had previously hidden at a friend's house in Ettadhamen after the murder. The body was discovered shortly after being concealed on the roof.
