Tunisian women's union office seized over 1987-2012 debts

The UNFT faces asset seizure and unpaid staff salaries due to accumulated debts from previous administrations.

The Union nationale de la femme tunisienne (UNFT) has denounced the seizure of its president's office and meeting room. The organization is demanding urgent payment of unpaid salaries and reinstatement of social coverage for its agents and executives, which has been interrupted for two years.

The UNFT's central committee attributes the crisis to accumulated debts from prior periods and the cancellation of a subsidy for staff salaries. This situation has led to a series of seizures to recover due sums, though the UNFT refuses responsibility for debts accumulated since 1987.

The seizure stems from a 14-year-old court judgment related to debts covering 1987 to 2012, predating the current leadership. Despite these financial difficulties, the UNFT intends to continue its work on combating violence against women and supporting vulnerable women.

Why it mattersThe UNFT's financial crisis and asset seizure directly affect its employees and its ability to operate.
