Tanzania avocado exports surpass 2030 target

Tanzania exported 52,000 tonnes of avocados in the 2025/2026 season, exceeding its 2030 goal.

Tanzania exported 52,000 tonnes of avocados in the 2025/2026 season, surpassing its 2030 target of 40,000 tonnes.

This achievement represents a 237 per cent increase from the 15,432.77 tonnes exported in the 2020/2021 season, earning 97.2 million US dollars compared to 44.2 million US dollars previously. Agriculture Minister Daniel Chongolo stated that this success was driven by collaboration between the government and private sector in strengthening production, markets, and infrastructure.

The Third National Avocado Stakeholders’ Forum in Dodoma heard that production grew by 36.24 per cent to 203,473 tonnes over the same period. The Cereal and Other Produce Regulatory Authority plans to operationalise crop collection and storage centres and formalise trade in the next season.

Why it mattersTanzanian farmers earned more foreign exchange and saw increased production of avocados.
