Jubilee Insurance cleans Kampala streets
Company staff joined city officials in a cleanup exercise to prevent disease spread and flooding.
Jubilee Insurance Uganda employees participated in a city cleaning exercise on Saturday alongside Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials. The cleanup covered streets including Kimathi Avenue, Parliament Avenue, and Kampala Road, aiming to improve sanitation and reduce disease risks.
Jubilee Insurance chief executive officer Eugine Mutekhele stated that regular cleaning and proper waste management are critical to reducing the spread of diseases like malaria, typhoid, and cholera, which disproportionately affect low-income communities. He emphasized that preventive care is better than curative, urging other corporations to support the government's monthly cleaning initiative.
KCCA officials noted that the monthly cleaning program has not yet attracted widespread participation and appealed for more organisations to provide equipment and mobilize residents. Sheila Komugisha, KCCA woman councillor, thanked Jubilee Insurance and called for sustained cooperation between authorities, businesses, and communities to improve sanitation.
Why it mattersKampala residents face increased risks of preventable diseases and flooding due to poor sanitation and blocked drainage channels.
