Uganda DPP disputes Shs129 million robbery claim
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions says the reported amount stolen from Assistant Director Alex Bagada is exaggerated.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in Uganda has refuted media reports claiming Assistant Director Alex Bagada was robbed of Shs129 million. ODPP spokesperson Jacquelyn Okui confirmed a suspected robbery occurred on October 8, 2026, but stated the reported sum was greatly exaggerated. The incident reportedly took place at Alchemist Restaurant and Bar in Kampala, not a sauna as some outlets suggested.
Okui clarified that the actual amount of money involved is significantly less than reported and will be confirmed after the ongoing criminal investigations conclude. The ODPP also disputed claims that Bagada had a bank balance of Shs570 million, calling those figures inaccurate. The matter was officially reported to the Uganda Police Force on October 10, 2026, and remains under police investigation.
The clarification follows a report by ChimpReports alleging Bagada was drugged and robbed by an unidentified woman after an encounter. The ODPP expressed concern that media coverage has shifted focus from the criminal act to speculation. They urged the media and public to avoid comments that could prejudice the investigation, emphasizing the need for accuracy and professionalism in reporting.
