Kaizer Chiefs lose CAF Confederation Cup tie on penalties

Amakhosi won the match 1-0 against Red Arrows but could not convert three penalties in the shootout.

Kaizer Chiefs have been eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after a 3-2 penalty shootout loss to Red Arrows. The Soweto giants won the second leg match 1-0, with Bradley Cross scoring a header in the 66th minute to level the aggregate score at 1-1. However, the team failed to convert three of their five penalties during the shootout, resulting in their exit.

Coach Fernando da Cruz made several changes to the team that lost the previous week, including starting Bruce Bvuma in goal and bringing back Lebohang Maboe. The attack was led by Wandile Duba, Pule Mmodi, and Mduduzi Shabalala, who struggled to convert crosses into goals. Shabalala missed two clear chances to win the tie for Chiefs before the penalty shootout.

The starting XI for Kaizer Chiefs included Bvuma, Frosler, Cross, Miguel, Moloisane, Mthethwa, Mabaso, Mmodi, Duba, Shabalala, and Abrahams. The team opted to play wide, delivering crosses into the box that found no effective finishing. Despite winning the match 1-0, the penalty shootout determined their progression to the group stage.
