Moriel Infrastructure Group removed from South African contractor register
Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson announced the company's removal on Tuesday, 27 October 2026.
Moriel Infrastructure Group, a construction company linked to Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Mudzinganyama, has been removed from South Africa’s National Register of Contractors. Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson announced the decision on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, following findings of misrepresentation in its registration applications.
The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) approved the removals on 15 October after investigating Moriel since 2025 over concerns about its financial and technical capabilities. Macpherson stated that the company was served formal notices in 2025 and again on 11 September 2026, and was given an opportunity to respond. Moriel previously held several high-level CIDB designations.
Moriel was among 13 construction companies removed from the register in the latest action, bringing the total number of contractors removed since June 2024 to 75. The minister warned that misrepresenting capabilities could allow unqualified companies to compete for government projects. Mudzinganyama's criminal case remains a separate matter for the justice system.
