South Africa petrol price drops by 1 cent

Diesel prices fall by up to R1.20 per litre following government fuel levy adjustments.

South African motorists will pay less for fuel from Wednesday, November 4, 2026, after petrol prices decreased by 1 cent per litre. Diesel prices saw more significant reductions, with 0.05% sulphur diesel falling by R1.10 per litre and 0.005% sulphur diesel dropping by R1.20 per litre. Wholesale illuminating paraffin, however, increased by R2.75 per litre.

These changes follow the National Treasury's announcement of a R10 billion fuel relief package, which included a temporary reduction of R1.50 per litre for petrol and R3.00 per litre for diesel. This intervention was introduced after motorists faced potential substantial price hikes due to deteriorating fuel recoveries in October. The slate levy increase largely negated the petrol levy reduction.

The inland price for Petrol 95 is now R30.24 per litre, down from R30.25 in October, while coastal Petrol 95 is R29.37, down from R29.38. Inland Diesel 0.005% is R31.60, down from R32.80. The Brent crude oil price is $102.18 a barrel, and the rand/dollar exchange rate is R16.44/$.

Why it mattersSouth African motorists will pay less for petrol and diesel, though illuminating paraffin prices have risen.
