Nkana beat Nchanga Rangers 2-0 to lead Super League

Coach Elijah Tana’s side secured a third consecutive victory, maintaining their perfect start to the transitional Super League season.

Nkana claimed a 2-0 victory over Nchanga Rangers at Nkana Stadium on Sunday, extending their flawless start to the transitional Super League season. The win places Nkana at the top of Stream A with a maximum nine points from three games. Striker Lazarous Kambole opened the scoring with a goal set up by Kedrick Mumba, while Patrick Gondwe added the second after a rebound from Captain Harrison Chisala’s shot.

Coach Elijah Tana has successfully blended experienced players like Kambole and Chisala with younger, energetic talent, creating a balanced team that has delivered consistent results. Despite the perfect record, Tana acknowledged the need to avoid complacency, stating his team will continue to push until the end of the competitive, short league season. Nkana has a history of strong starts followed by late-season fades, a pattern they aim to break this year.

The loss puts Nchanga Rangers under significant pressure, with Assistant Coach Israel Mwanza admitting to three straight defeats and a worrying habit of conceding early goals. Mwanza maintains faith in the team's system, but the results business of football suggests that conceding early setbacks undermines any tactical approach.

Why it mattersFootball fans in Zambia are affected by Nkana's strong performance as it sets a high standard for competition in the Super League.
