Benin launches stroke awareness campaign

The 'Détourner l’AVC' campaign runs from October 25 to November 1, 2026, with daily information and a public dialogue.

An awareness campaign on stroke, or accident vasculaire cérébral (AVC), is underway in Benin from October 25 to November 1, 2026. The initiative, named 'Détourner l’AVC', is led by Hervé Prudence Hessou, president of the Union of Media Professionals of Benin. The campaign aims to inform the public about stroke warning signs, risk factors, and prevention methods through daily posters and fact sheets.

Beyond symptom recognition, the campaign also addresses post-stroke rehabilitation and support for loved ones. It includes activities coinciding with the World Stroke Day on October 29 and a dedicated day on October 30 for life after a stroke. A public dialogue event, 'Dialogue Cerveau & Voix', is scheduled for October 31 at 10 AM at the Maison des médias Thomas Mègnassan in Cotonou.

Survivors, journalists, doctors, speech therapists, and physiotherapists are expected to participate in the October 31 dialogue. The campaign's daily information will cover alert signs, risk factors, and prevention, as well as rehabilitation and family support.
