Global Fund ends Botswana HIV and TB funding by 2030

Botswana must finance its HIV and tuberculosis programmes entirely from domestic resources after the Global Fund's final grant cycle.

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has designated its latest grant cycle as Botswana's final allocation for HIV and TB programmes. The country is expected to finance these health services entirely from domestic resources by the end of 2030.

Funding for HIV programmes has been reduced, with Botswana's allocation falling from US$22.88 million under Grant Cycle 7 to US$13.12 million under Grant Cycle 8. This represents a decline of 42.6%, or approximately US$9.75 million.

This decision means Botswana will need to secure its own funding for HIV and TB treatment and prevention efforts moving forward. The Global Fund's Grant Cycle 8 is the last for these specific disease programmes in the country.

Why it mattersBotswana's HIV and TB programmes will need domestic funding by 2030.
