DR Congo police arrest over 20 corrupt and fake officers
Kinshasa operation uncovers officers involved in extortion and arbitrary detention.
The General Inspectorate of the Congolese National Police (IG-PNC) arrested over 20 corrupt officers and several fake police officers in Kinshasa during a three-day operation. Nearly 70 inspectors conducted checks at police stations from October 28 to 30.
The IG-PNC stated the operation aimed to identify officers involved in law violations, including arbitrary detentions, and individuals illegally performing police duties. Many arrested lacked service cards or official documents, with some allegedly recruited irregularly by commanders and equipped with police uniforms and gear.
These fake officers are accused of extortion and other infractions, sometimes using civilians for illegal activities. The IG-PNC is also searching for commanders who facilitated the infiltration of these fake officers, and controls will continue across all police units.
