Cameroon nears 80% completion of anti-money laundering plan
The nation has completed 19 of 24 actions to exit GAFI's enhanced surveillance and restore investor trust.
Cameroon has completed 19 of 24 actions to combat money laundering and terrorism financing, raising its implementation rate from 46% to nearly 80%. The nation aims to finalize the remaining five measures to exit enhanced surveillance by the Financial Action Task Force (GAFI). This progress was reported at a meeting in Yaoundé on October 22, 2026, chaired by Minister Delegate Yaouba Abdoulaye.
The economic and reputational stakes are high, as being on GAFI's grey list increases financing costs and slows financial flows. To exit this list, administrations must complete the final actions and reinforce controls in the non-financial sector.
This acceleration of reforms is intended to secure the national financial system and enhance the country's attractiveness to economic partners. The government seeks to reassure investors and improve the country's financial reputation.
Why it mattersCameroon's efforts to exit GAFI's enhanced surveillance aim to restore investor confidence and improve the country's financial standing.
