Cameroon power line loses 44.7% of electricity
The Logbaba–Bassa 1 transmission line in Douala lost nearly nine times the acceptable electricity threshold in November 2025.
Cameroon's Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency (ARSEL) recorded a 44.7% active power loss rate on the 90-kilovolt Logbaba–Bassa 1 transmission line in Douala in November 2025. This amounted to 22,326 megawatt-hours (MWh) of lost electricity, far exceeding the regulator's 5% acceptable technical threshold.
ARSEL has recommended audits to investigate the high losses on the 4.131-kilometer line, suggesting potential issues with infrastructure or measurement accuracy. In May 2025, the same line had already reported 10,258 MWh in losses, a 14.7% loss rate.
Other transmission lines also show significant losses, with the Garoua–Guider line experiencing rates between 8.2% and 18.9% over six months. The National Electricity Transmission Company (Sonatrel) published an infrastructure inventory for the affected line in March 2025.
