CDEC records CFA61.2 billion in securities transactions

Cameroon's Deposits and Consignments Fund invested over 80% of its funds in government debt.

Cameroon's Deposits and Consignments Fund (CDEC) recorded CFA61.2 billion in securities transactions in the first nine months of 2026. Over 80% of these transactions involved securities issued by the Cameroonian government. CDEC aims to shift more than 20% of its investments outside government securities by the end of 2028.

The institution began investing in December 2024 with CFA9 billion in transactions, followed by CFA60 billion in 2025. These figures represent transaction volumes, not the value of securities CDEC currently holds. CDEC became a major institutional investor in government securities in 2025.

The CDEC's investment strategy is evolving as it becomes more active in the regional financial market. The fund's total transactions reached CFA61.2 billion between January and September 2026.

Why it mattersCameroon's Deposits and Consignments Fund is concentrating its investments in government debt, impacting the allocation of financial market funds.
