Cape Verde extends voter registration for accessible transport

The National Electoral Commission (CNE) has extended voter registration for its accessible transport program until November 10.

Cape Verde's National Electoral Commission (CNE) has extended voter registration for its accessible transport program until November 10. This program provides free transport for voters with mobility challenges, including the elderly, disabled, and homebound, to reach their polling stations.

The CNE first launched the accessible voting initiative in 2019, aiming to remove barriers for citizens with disabilities and reduced mobility. Previous measures included Braille ballots, sign language in audiovisual materials, and accessibility training for electoral agents. The free transport service was piloted during the May 17, 2026 legislative elections in Praia.

For the upcoming presidential elections on November 15, the CNE plans to expand the free transport service to all municipalities nationwide. This is the second edition of the program, building on the pilot's success in partnership with civil society organizations.

Why it mattersCape Verdean voters with mobility issues will have easier access to polling stations for the November 15 presidential elections.
