Djibouti has launched a national strategy to guide the development of artificial intelligence, emphasizing governance, cybersecurity, training, research, innovation, and inclusion. The plan follows discussions on the country's readiness for AI, with a UNESCO RAM report presented during the second day of deliberations. Experts from UNESCO and ESCWA, alongside local academics, contributed to shaping the strategy.
Key areas of focus include data governance, digital security, institutional frameworks, and national priorities. Participants highlighted that successful AI transformation hinges on developing appropriate skills, rather than solely on technology. The strategy aims to equip both public and private sectors with necessary expertise and foster a new generation of researchers and entrepreneurs in emerging technologies.
Discussions also covered essential elements for implementation, such as evolving educational programs, teacher training, research development, computing infrastructure, and university partnerships. Five panels were dedicated to elaborating on these strategic directions, underscoring a commitment to practical application and capacity building.
