Djibouti hosts EU security and defence ambassadors

Djibouti's foreign minister and interim interior minister met with EU envoys to discuss security cooperation.

Djibouti hosted ambassadors from the EU's Council of the European Union for Political and Security Committee (COPS) on April 11, 2026. Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdoulkader Houssein Omar and interim Minister of Interior Omar Abdi Said received the delegation led by Ambassador Lene Vensild at the Diplomatic Studies Institute.

The EU COPS delegation represents the bloc's central body for common security and defence policy. Discussions focused on deepening security and military cooperation between Djibouti and the EU, and on regional and international challenges. Both sides described the talks as "in-depth."

Djibouti, located at the entrance to the Bab el-Mandeb strait, is a long-standing partner for Europeans in the Horn of Africa. The visit signifies the importance both Djibouti and the EU place on their partnership and joint initiatives for regional peace and stability.
