Algeria mobilizes 67 billion dinars for western water supply

Work begins on connecting desalination plants to supply Tlemcen and Sidi Bel Abbès with drinking water.

Algeria's Minister of Water Resources and Hydraulic Security, Lounès Bouzegza, launched work on connecting new desalination plants in Tlemcen on Monday. The project involves laying 105 kilometers of pipes to supply drinking water to Tlemcen and Sidi Bel Abbès. The minister's visit to Tlemcen is the first stop in a tour across four wilayas to launch and inaugurate strategic projects.

The specific project in Tlemcen, at the Aïn Adjroud desalination site, has been allocated 67 billion Algerian dinars. The construction, divided into five lots awarded to national companies, is scheduled for completion within 16 months. This initiative aims to consolidate national hydraulic security and modernize water services.

New desalination plants are also under construction in Mostaganem and Chlef. The government aims to diversify water sources and expand the national hydraulic infrastructure network. These projects align with directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to consolidate water security.
