Egypt to power 7,000 factories with 1,000MW solar energy

The 'Shams El-Senaa' initiative aims to cut industrial electricity costs and boost competitiveness.

Egypt plans to install 1,000 megawatts of solar power capacity to supply approximately 7,000 factories through the "Shams El-Senaa" initiative. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed the plan, which aims to expand renewable energy use and lower industrial electricity expenses.

Madbouly stated that President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi supports the initiative as part of efforts to diversify energy sources and reduce production costs. Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat said the programme will lower factory electricity bills and natural gas use, improving production efficiency.

The initiative also intends to support local manufacturing of renewable energy components and increase local content. This plan aligns with Egypt's national energy strategy to boost renewable sources in its energy mix and improve electricity consumption efficiency.
