Cenpower marks decade of Ghana power plant

The 350 MW Kpone Independent Power Plant has supplied electricity to one million households since 2019.

Cenpower Generation Ltd celebrated a decade since the sod-cutting ceremony for its 350 MW Kpone Independent Power Plant (KIPP). The event, themed “Powering Ghana’s Future Through Reliable and Sustainable Power Generation,” brought together government officials, shareholders, and energy sector stakeholders.

The company, incorporated in 2003 by four Ghanaian entrepreneurs, began developing KIPP to meet Ghana’s electricity demand. The project achieved financial close in December 2014, with sod-cutting on 29 January 2015, and commenced commercial operations on 10 June 2019.

Since beginning operations, KIPP has supplied enough electricity for about one million homes. Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang described Cenpower as an example of Ghanaian enterprise and private sector participation in national infrastructure development.
