Telecel Ghana Foundation helps over 500 patients go home
The Telecel Ghana Foundation's Homecoming initiative paid medical bills for insolvent patients at 16 government hospitals.
The Telecel Ghana Foundation launched its 2026 Homecoming initiative to help over 500 insolvent patients leave 16 government hospitals nationwide. The program began at Shai Osudoku District Hospital in Dodowa, where the Foundation paid the outstanding medical bills for 29 patients who were ready to go home. Telecel Ghana also provided National Health Insurance Scheme registration and renewal for 120 individuals.
Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, who leads the Foundation, Sustainability and External Communications at Telecel Ghana, stated that the initiative aims to prevent financial hardship from keeping recovered patients from their families. Since 2011, Homecoming has assisted financially vulnerable patients and helped hospitals recover bills, freeing up beds. The Foundation also donated maternal-health equipment to Shai Osudoku District Hospital.
Dr Alexander Adjei, Medical Director of Shai Osudoku District Hospital, called the intervention a vital example of how partnerships can improve healthcare. Florence, a beneficiary, shared her relief after two weeks of uncertainty, wanting to return home to rest and care for herself and her baby.
