Two immigration officers face a November 7 deadline to return unearned salaries totaling up to GH¢57,006 following parliamentary committee scrutiny.
Two officers within the Ghana Immigration Service who collected up to GH¢57,006 in unearned wages must return the funds by November 7, 2026. The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, identified the beneficiaries as Abida Zakaria and Abora Angelina during an appearance before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee. Officials who authorised these payments face financial liability if the money remains unrecovered after the deadline.
The committee also reviewed GH¢37,907 in excess salary arrears paid to 7 officers, with approximately GH¢12,900 still outstanding from an initial GH¢24,900 recovery. Lawmakers discussed an additional recovery of GH¢206,085 regarding an inspector who resigned following four years of paid study leave without fulfilling service obligations.
To prevent future payroll discrepancies, the interior minister announced plans to deploy new human resource software for better staff transfers and salary validation. He also proposed self-accounting arrangements for security services to improve financial oversight and simplify payroll audits.
