JUSAG strike grounds Cape Coast courts
Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana members began an indefinite strike on Monday, November 2, over unapproved salary reviews.
The Cape Coast Court Complex was locked and silent on Monday, November 2, as the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) began a nationwide strike. Red bands blocked the entrances, preventing access for staff, lawyers, and the public, halting all judicial activities in the Central Regional capital.
JUSAG declared the indefinite strike after the government failed to approve the Judicial Council’s recommendations for the 2026 salary review. The association demanded approval by the end of October and payment of revised salaries with arrears from January to October 2026.
The strike has affected court operations nationwide, leaving litigants like a 75-year-old man from Dunkwa-on-Offin stranded. Traders near the court complex also reported a loss of customers due to the closure.
