US embassy offers expedited visa interviews for Ghanaians
Ghanaians with urgent travel needs can now apply for earlier visa appointments at the US Embassy in Accra.
The United States Embassy in Accra has announced a process for Ghanaians to request earlier appointments for nonimmigrant visa interviews in cases of unexpected emergencies. This provision is for individuals needing to travel urgently to the United States for reasons such as emergency medical care, a family member's funeral, or unforeseen business needs. The embassy cautioned that expedited slots are limited and not guaranteed.
To apply, Ghanaians must first complete the DS-160 form, pay the visa fee, and book the earliest available regular interview. After these steps, they can submit an emergency request through the appointment portal, detailing their circumstances and providing supporting documents like medical records. Approved requests will lead to an email notification with instructions to select a new interview date.
Applicants whose emergency requests are declined will also be notified by email but will keep their original interview appointments. The U.S. Department of State's general guidance confirms that expedited appointments are considered for urgent and unforeseen circumstances, requiring applicants to provide evidence of their need.
