Gambia entrepreneurs join green economy fellowship

Acumen's six-month program trains leaders in climate and green business with grants up to $50,000.

The Green Rise Africa Fellowship, a program by Acumen and Masafa Foundation, is empowering Gambian entrepreneurs in the climate and green economy. Representatives from Acumen spoke on Thursday at African Princess Hotel, emphasizing the program's focus on moral leadership and change-making. The fellowship is a six-month hybrid program combining virtual and in-person sessions across West Africa. Acumen's mission is to invest in entrepreneurs building inclusive societies.

The curriculum focuses on self-reflection, values-driven leadership, and business resilience, with workshops on Authentic Voice and Adaptive Leadership. Oluchi Okoroafor, Acumen’s fellowship senior associate, stated the program goes beyond technical training, asking leaders to examine their values. Graduates gain lifelong membership in Acumen’s global network of over 2,000 fellows, with access to peer collaboration and funding opportunities. The Angels Green Rise Africa program offers grants of $25,000 or $50,000.

Local entrepreneurs like Beran Dondeh Gillen of The Hub Ltd described the program as transformational, validating his commitment to business integrity. Mariam Sarge of Electric Energy Solution learned to delegate and amplify her business story, exploring new opportunities. Acumen aims to nurture leaders tackling poverty and climate challenges with integrity as the fellowship expands across 15 countries.
