Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy out with muscle strain
The forward will miss the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Eritrea due to a thigh injury.
Guinea's star striker Serhou Guirassy will miss the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Eritrea after a medical examination confirmed a thigh muscle strain. He sustained the injury on Wednesday during a Champions League match for Borussia Dortmund, where he was substituted before halftime in his team's 2-1 victory over Real Betis.
Guirassy's absence deprives coach Paulo Duarte of a decisive player, who scored Guinea's winning goal against Kenya in the previous international window. Dortmund coach Niko Kovac stated that Guirassy would remain in Germany for treatment, and that the club and the Guinean Football Federation are coordinating his management. The forward is also out for Dortmund's Saturday league match.
The Guinean squad also faces the absence of defender Saïdou Sow, who has a knee injury and has been replaced by FK Karviná forward Ousmane Condé. Soumaïla Sylla is also out and will be replaced by Sékou Salifou Sylla.
Why it mattersGuinea's national football team will play two matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations without their leading goal scorer, Serhou Guirassy, and defender Saïdou Sow.
