A new micro-project will stage 20 performances and discussions across Bioko Island to raise awareness about gender-based violence.
The BOCAMANDJA Theater Company, funded by FRS-European Union, has launched a micro-project aimed at promoting the rights and well-being of women and girls on Bioko Island. The initiative will span several months and cover both Bioko Norte and Bioko Sur provinces, targeting adolescents, youth, and the general public. This project aligns with a broader effort to foster community awareness and encourage attitudinal changes regarding gender-based violence.
The project includes twenty theatrical performances, twenty discussion sessions, and the distribution of informational leaflets. Following each play, a facilitated dialogue will address questions and topics arising from the performance. BOCAMANDJA stated its commitment to human rights, gender equality, and the welfare of women and girls in Equatorial Guinea, emphasizing theater's role in transforming perspectives.
The discussions are designed to encourage open and participatory debate around gender-based violence and its various forms. This initiative is part of FRS's main project, specifically Result 4, which focuses on community sensitization for behavioral change concerning gender-based violence.
Why it mattersThe project aims to raise awareness and promote dialogue about gender-based violence and women's rights on Bioko Island.
