Kenya secures Chinese market for dried chillies
Kenyan farmers and exporters can now sell dried chillies to China after meeting strict quality and safety rules.
Kenyan farmers, processors, and traders will now export dried chillies to China, a major consumer market. The Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) announced this market access on October 16, 2026.
KEPHIS stated that this development allows Kenyan producers to diversify export markets and increase trade. Exporters must register their facilities with China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) through KEPHIS and meet stringent phytosanitary and food safety requirements.
All farmers, drying facilities, and packhouses must also register with KEPHIS. Each shipment to China requires a KEPHIS Phytosanitary Certificate to confirm compliance with the set standards.
