Somali national to be repatriated after passport fraud conviction
A court ordered the repatriation of a Somali national convicted of obtaining Kenyan identity and passport documents fraudulently.
A Somali national, Mohamud Mohammed Roble, will be repatriated to Somalia after being convicted of passport fraud in Kenya. Roble pleaded guilty to three charges at the JKIA Law Courts, including unlawful presence, making a false declaration for a Kenyan passport, and presenting a fraudulent identity card. He was fined a total of Sh370,000 for these offenses.
The court fined Roble Sh150,000 for unlawful presence, Sh150,000 for the false declaration, and Sh70,000 for the identity card offense, with imprisonment as an alternative to payment. Detectives from the Immigration and Citizen Services Investigations Unit arrested Roble at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after immigration officials handed over the case. Investigations revealed he had secured Kenyan registration documents before using false declarations to obtain a Kenyan passport.
The court ordered the surrender of Roble's passport to the Director General of Immigration Services for destruction. This case comes amid mounting scrutiny of Kenyan identity instruments, including national identity cards and passports, due to several violations.
