Liberia police suspend four officers for misconduct

One officer faces criminal investigation for alleged assault, corruption, and gross insubordination.

The Liberia National Police (LNP) suspended four officers without pay between October 28 and 29 for alleged disciplinary violations. Patrolmen Thomas W. Woart, Roderick Samukai, John V. Roques, and Melvin K. Jappah were disciplined for actions including assault, excessive force, negligence of duty, corruption, and insubordination.

Patrolman Woart received an indefinite suspension without salary and was referred for criminal investigation. Patrolman Samukai was suspended for two months without pay for negligence of duty. Patrolmen Roques and Jappah each received six-month suspensions without pay for alleged corruption and other violations.

The LNP stated these actions are part of efforts to enforce professional standards and accountability within the force. The affected officers must surrender government-issued properties and retain the right to appeal the disciplinary measures.
