Liberia senator demands speedy trial over US$425,000 equipment deal
Gbarpolu County citizens call for Superintendent Sam K. Zinnah's recusal amid allegations of financial misconduct.
Gbarpolu Senator Amara Konneh is demanding a swift conclusion to a two-year-old court case involving US$425,000 in development funds for earth-moving machines. Concerned citizens are also calling for the recusal of Gbarpolu County Superintendent Sam K. Zinnah due to alleged mismanagement and procurement irregularities.
The case centers on the purchase of three heavy-duty machines, including a bulldozer and an excavator, intended for infrastructure projects. The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) indictment alleges that refurbished or substandard equipment was supplied instead of new machines, with payments made through electronic checks totaling LRD 80,750,000.
Several county officials and the vendor, City Lion Inc., are implicated in the proceedings, which have stalled for over two years. Senator Konneh has urged the Ministry of Justice to expedite the trial, stating that the people of Gbarpolu deserve accountability for their development resources.
