The ministry attributed this decline to field operations conducted by provincial committees tasked with combating illegal cannabis cultivation. Security operations through August 2026 also resulted in the seizure of over 274 tons of hash, 53 tons of cannabis plants, and significant amounts of other drugs, including cocaine and heroin.

The ministry is intensifying efforts against drug trafficking through enhanced security, training, and expertise exchange, with a focus on emerging drugs and psychotropic pills. Surveillance has increased along borders and coastlines, and awareness campaigns are underway to prevent drug use, especially among youth, with special attention to dealers near schools.
