Mali allocates 212 hectares for 100 MW solar plant
The Gongasso solar farm will include a 100 MWh storage system to integrate renewable energy into the national grid.
Mali has designated 212 hectares of land in Gongasso, Sikasso region, for a new 100 MWc solar power plant. The decision was made during a Council of Ministers meeting on October 23, 2026. This project aims to boost the country's renewable energy capacity.
The solar farm will feature a 100 MWh storage system to help integrate solar power into the national grid. An engineering firm, ICRED, previously conducted a feasibility study for a 100 MWc solar plant with storage. The final land allocation is slightly smaller than the 240 hectares initially considered.
The project aims to diversify Mali's energy sources and strengthen electricity availability. The combination of solar production and storage can contribute to better integration of renewables into the national electricity network.
Why it mattersMali is developing renewable energy infrastructure to increase electricity availability for its citizens.
