Mali traffic alternates on RN27 from October 19

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has reintroduced alternating traffic on a section of Bamako's Route Nationale 27 to allow for roadworks.

Alternating traffic has resumed on the urban stretch of Route Nationale 27 in Bamako since October 19, 2026. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced the measure, citing ongoing road development works. This system aims to facilitate the continuation of construction while maintaining vehicle passage as much as possible, requiring increased vigilance from all road users.

The decision follows a site visit on October 16, 2026, by ministry officials, national police, and Bamako city representatives. They assessed the progress of the roadworks and determined the necessity of temporary lane closures to allow construction teams to work. The alternating traffic is intended to balance the needs of the construction site with the daily travel requirements of the population.

This measure is designed to manage traffic flow during urban road construction, where sections of the road must be temporarily closed. The principle of alternating traffic on RN27 involves organizing vehicle passage according to conditions set on the ground, accounting for areas closed for construction purposes. This approach seeks to limit difficulties for commuters.

Why it mattersRoad users in Bamako are affected by alternating traffic on RN27, requiring them to exercise increased vigilance and adapt to temporary road closures due to ongoing construction.
