Minister Mokhtar Ould Ahmed Bousseif met with officials to assess the performance of the contracted cleaning company, Arma.

Mauritania's Interior Minister Mokhtar Ould Ahmed Bousseif chaired a meeting in Nouakchott on Sunday to evaluate the city's sanitation services and the performance of the contracted company, Arma. The minister reviewed the company's contract, which began in July 2025, and noted ongoing issues with waste management in the capital's neighborhoods and streets.

The minister stated that Arma's contractual obligations have not been met to the required standard, giving the company until the end of December to correct deficiencies. He also stressed the need to activate legal frameworks for sanitation and enforce penalties for violations, including construction sites improperly disposing of debris. The governors of Nouakchott's three wilayas also reported a decline in Arma's performance.

The government is considering alternative solutions to ensure the capital's cleanliness, as the current company may not wish to continue the contract beyond the December deadline. The minister emphasized that the priority is achieving tangible results in cleaning Nouakchott, whether through the current contractor or other options.
