Malawian energy company Sky Energy launched 100 electric taxis, 40 public charging stations, and a ride-hailing app on Friday evening in Lilongwe. The move aims to address the country's ongoing fuel shortages.
Sky Energy's managing director, Schizzo Thomson, stated that the Sky E-Ride app will allow users to book electric rides via their phones. He emphasized that replacing petrol cars requires supporting infrastructure, not just the vehicles themselves.
The company celebrated its 10th anniversary at the launch event held at Umodzi Park, Presidential Hotel. Malawi imports all its petroleum, requiring foreign currency for purchases.
