US boosts investment firepower to $205 billion

Washington targets African minerals, including Mozambique's graphite, to challenge China's supply chain dominance.

The United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) can now support up to $205 billion in global investments, with plans to increase annual deployment to between $25 billion and $35 billion next year.

The DFC has already committed over $14 billion across Africa, with more than $3 billion specifically linked to critical minerals and related infrastructure, as Washington seeks alternatives to Chinese-controlled supply chains.

DFC Head of Investments Conor Coleman stated the agency has completed $6 billion in transactions, approved another $13 billion, and has a global pipeline valued at approximately $100 billion.
