Nanso Zambezi seeks government support for student welfare
The Namibia National Students Organisation regional chapter faces challenges implementing congress resolutions due to lack of government assistance.
The Namibia National Students Organisation (NANSO) in the Zambezi Region stated on Wednesday that a lack of government support hinders its work addressing student concerns. Regional representatives voiced these issues during a panel discussion hosted by the ministry of information and communication technology’s Zambezi Regional Office.
NANSO representatives cited difficulties in securing transport and logistical aid from government offices, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration. The organisation had sought N$445 000 for its 19th National Students Congress in August, which was affected by government funding cuts. Resolutions from the congress called for improved student welfare and sustained government support for recognised student bodies.
Shazzy Liswaniso, overseeing gender affairs, said collaboration should extend beyond meetings to regular communication and follow-ups. Munisola Munisola, the regional finance officer, noted that fundraising plans for next year require government and stakeholder support, including logistical assistance for meetings.
Why it mattersStudents in the Zambezi Region face challenges with accommodation, registration, mental welfare, and learning resources due to a lack of support for NANSO.
