Security guard jailed for stealing CCTV camera

Alie Sesay received a six-month sentence for taking a camera valued at Le2,540 in Freetown.

A 34-year-old security guard, Alie Sesay, was sentenced to six months in prison in Freetown for stealing a CCTV camera. The camera was valued at Le2,540 and was taken from Aberdeen. Magistrate Medissa Massaquoi of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 6 handed down the sentence on October 30, 2026, after Sesay pleaded guilty to larceny.

Sesay stole the CCTV camera belonging to Bilal Bah on September 21, 2026, from No. 90 Sir Samuel Lewis Road in Freetown. He admitted the offence without contesting the charge. Sub-Inspector Amiza John prosecuted the case and presented Sesay’s voluntary caution statement. The prosecutor noted Sesay was a first-time offender.

Magistrate Massaquoi considered Sesay's guilty plea and lack of prior convictions as mitigating factors. She acknowledged that his admission saved the court time and resources. Despite these factors, the magistrate ordered Sesay to serve his sentence at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
