Two Sierra Leone police officers to study forensic science in India

The officers will gain advanced knowledge in scientific evidence analysis and modern crime detection techniques.

Two Sierra Leone Police officers are travelling to India for master’s degrees in forensic science, starting Friday, October 30, 2026. This initiative aims to strengthen criminal investigations and improve the force's technical capabilities. The officers received their travel tickets at a ceremony at Police Headquarters in Freetown.

Acting Director of Training, ACP John Fayiah Tumbay, presented the travel documents, urging the officers to represent Sierra Leone and the police with discipline. He stressed the importance of acquiring specialised skills to improve the force's investigative capacity and service delivery upon their return.

The training is expected to enhance forensic investigation practices and the handling of evidence, contributing to more effective investigations and public confidence. Inspector-General William Fayia Sellu’s efforts focus on personnel development and responding to evolving security challenges.
