The Court of Arbitration for Sport will announce its decision on Senegal's appeal to regain their Africa Cup of Nations title by the close of November.
Senegal's appeal to reclaim the Africa Cup of Nations title, which was overturned in March, is set for a verdict by the end of November. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced Monday that deliberations are ongoing regarding the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to award a 3-0 victory and the continental title to Morocco.
CAF's appeals panel had initially stripped Senegal of their title after their team walked off the field to protest a penalty awarded to Morocco, causing a 15-minute delay. The penalty was subsequently missed by Brahim Diaz. Senegal's government had vowed to pursue all avenues to regain the title, accusing the African soccer governing body of corruption.
The Switzerland-based court confirmed that its ruling will be delivered by the end of November. This decision follows Senegal's appeal against the CAF panel's judgment that faulted their protest and awarded the championship to Morocco.
Why it mattersSenegalese football fans are affected by the potential loss of their continental title due to a protest during a match.
