Dakar Olympic Youth Games Trigger Road Restrictions

Traffic diversions and restricted access will be in place on the Autoroute de l'Avenir and around Diamniadio stadium for the opening ceremony.

Eleven days before the opening of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the Governor of Dakar, Ousmane Kane, issued an order on October 20th detailing traffic and parking regulations for the Autoroute de l'Avenir and the vicinity of the Abdoulaye-Wade stadium in Diamniadio. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 31st. A dedicated Olympic lane will operate on the left side of the Autoroute de l'Avenir's Patte-d'Oie–AIBD section from 7 AM to 11:30 PM, with traffic flow reversing direction in the evening.

Access to Exit 11, serving the stadium, will be restricted to vehicles with COJOJ accreditation from 7 AM to 11:30 PM. Spectators are directed to use shuttle buses or designated pedestrian routes, as only accredited vehicles and dedicated public transport will be permitted within the Diamniadio security perimeters. General traffic will use exits 10 and 12, with clear signage guiding spectators to parking areas and the stadium.

Heavy goods vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes will be prohibited on specific routes, including the toll highway between Patte-d'Oie and Sébikhotane, and sections of the RN2, from 7 AM to 11:30 PM. These restrictions aim to ensure the smooth running of the opening ceremony, with emergency access routes maintained and secured by various coordinating agencies.

Why it mattersThe restrictions will affect general commuters and heavy goods vehicles using the Autoroute de l'Avenir and surrounding roads.
