The National Sanitation Office (ONAS) in Senegal has completed 98% of its work to combat flooding and improve infrastructure for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. Director General Sény Dieng announced that the remaining finishing touches are being addressed. The organization has focused on key areas, including collectors near the Olympic swimming pool and the Iba Mar Diop stadium.
A total of 250 million FCFA, funded by the Games' organizing committee, supported four sanitation projects. These included a 60-meter collector at the Franco-Arab school for rainwater evacuation and a 340-meter wastewater collector with a diameter of 400-500 millimeters. Work also involved connecting Olympic village facilities to the sanitation network and addressing flooding issues in areas like Rue 22 de la Medina and Gibraltar Centenaire.
ONAS also replaced damaged grilles and renewed a collector in Gibraltar. Beyond the Games-related work, ONAS is conducting post-rainy season maintenance, including preventive desilting. Dieng stated that the Games provided an opportunity to rehabilitate collectors that were necessary but previously unfunded.
