Senegal PM defends 2050 vision amid budget constraints
Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Mohamed Lô stated that the method for achieving Senegal's 2050 goals will adapt, not the ambition.
Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Mohamed Lô defended Senegal's "Vision 2050" goals on October 25 in Dakar, stating that while the country faces budget constraints, the ambition for economic sovereignty and social justice remains unchanged. He called for institutional differences to be set aside to prioritize the interests of Senegalese citizens, emphasizing that a nation's strength is measured by its ability to overcome difficulties without losing sight of its priorities.
During a press conference on the revised finance law (LFR) for 2026, Prime Minister Lô stressed the need to distinguish between democratic debate and obstruction of government work, noting a "profound nuance" between amendments and hindering governmental action. He also addressed the management of special funds, urging for calm discussions and dialogue to prevent the issue from becoming a public controversy.
The Prime Minister outlined the state's simultaneous imperatives: honoring commitments, ensuring public service continuity, and maintaining essential investments for the country's future. Opposition leader Ousmane Sonko had invited Prime Minister Lô to renew dialogue regarding the LFR 2026.
