Sao Tomean soldiers train in advanced first aid

13 military personnel completed a five-day course on life-saving techniques for combat and civilian emergencies.

13 Sao Tomean soldiers learned advanced first aid techniques during a five-day course taught by Portuguese military health specialists. The training culminated in a simulation exercise involving a simulated ship explosion at Porto de Ana Chaves, where two crew members sustained severe injuries, including facial burns and a fractured leg with arterial bleeding.

The simulated casualties received initial care from four trained crew members before being transported to the hospital in stable condition. Lieutenant-Colonel Rui Alves, chief of the Portuguese mission, stated that the 13 trainees are now equipped to intervene in war scenarios, civilian catastrophes, and other emergencies.

One graduate, Corporal Reginaldo Cravid, expressed confidence in applying his new skills in both military and civilian life. Brigadier-General VirgĂlio Pontes, Chief of Staff of the Sao Tomean Armed Forces, noted that the training's impact extends beyond the military context.

Why it mattersSao Tomean soldiers are now better prepared to save lives during military operations and civilian emergencies.
