UDS-TOGO calls for national dialogue amid political deadlock

The party seeks constitutional reforms and an amnesty law to foster national reconciliation and restore order.

The Union of Socialist Democrats of Togo (UDS-TOGO) called for an inclusive national consultation on October 24, 2026, in Lomé to address the country's political impasse. The party advocates for institutional and electoral reforms, socioeconomic measures, and an amnesty law to promote national reconciliation.

This call follows a ruling by the ECOWAS Court of Justice on January 29, 2026, which deemed Togo's March 25, 2024, constitutional revision an unconstitutional change of government. UDS-TOGO stated this ruling politically and morally damages the current administration and its legitimacy.

The party believes the court's decision provides international legal backing for Togolese citizens and democratic forces seeking to restore constitutional order and popular sovereignty. UDS-TOGO insists that the current constitution, not born from national consensus, will continue to be seen as an imposed diktat.

Why it mattersThe political deadlock and calls for reform directly affect the governance and constitutional framework of Togo.
