Dettol Hygiene Quest expands to 750 Ugandan schools

Over 650,000 pupils will receive hygiene education and handwashing skills in the programme's third phase.

The Dettol Hygiene Quest initiative will reach an additional 650,000 pupils in 750 Ugandan schools through its third phase, launched in 2026. The programme, a partnership between Dettol, the ministry of Education and Sports, and CHIL Hygiene Centre, aims to teach proper hygiene practices to prevent infections.

Organisers stated that the initiative has already reached over one million children in 1,500 schools across Uganda, including in Gulu, Kampala, and Isingiro. Reckitt's country manager for Uganda, Bornface Shaka Onyari, said the new phase will help schools sustain the hygiene practices introduced.

The programme uses an AI-powered chatbot called Keti to support teachers and assess learning outcomes. Aisha Sekindi, representing the state minister for Water, commended the effort but stressed that success should be measured by behavioural change and facility sustainability, not just the number of schools reached.
